01/20/2025 to 01/26/2025 Weekly Update
On Tuesday morning, it was -29 degrees and the battery in Andrew’s Trailblazer was dead. It had sat for three days; at first, we thought the cold was the culprit, but we eventually figured out there was a device plugged into the cigarette lighter that had slowly drained the battery.
Tuesday evening, we found out Andrew made 3rd chair symphonic! He practiced really hard this year and moved himself up from sixth chair.
On Wednesday, Tiffany informed me that our Hot Dawg furnace in the garage is out. It is giving a seven-flash error code that indicates ignition has failed multiple times in a row. So, we will need to give Northern Air Plumbing and Heating a call. We also need a thermostat serviced, our main furnace should be gone through, and we need a different option for a hot water heater.
On Friday the 24th, we drove to Minneapolis to visit my brother and his family. Ther was lots of catching up to do. Mazie shared details about her recent trip to Costa Rica. She stayed in Monteverde for a study abroad program and then had stayed at a hostel in Manuel Antonio. While in Manuel Antonio she visited a national park, and got to spend time at the beach.
For dinner we ate at Pajarito Restaurant in Edina. After enjoying our food, we visited the Ice Castle located at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds as part of St Paul’s Winter Carnival. After enjoying the sights, we went to Activate in Roseville. You get a fair amount of exercise while playing the various games. It felt good to get the blood flowing.
After returning to the Thingelstad’s, Tyler showed me his PC Tower build that he had recently completed. He wrote a blog post about it here that goes into great detail.
On Saturday morning, Jamie helped me transfer my domain ikeating.com from GoDaddy to Namecheap. I am deeply grateful for his help, because of his expertise, it only took a couple of hours. This was the last task that I needed to do to rid myself of GoDaddy. Jamie had previously helped me transfer our email from GoDaddy Exchange to Fastmail.
Namecheap is now my domains registrar, Fastmail is configured to manage DNS, Fastmail is hosting my files, and I am using WebDAV protocol to manage files on Fastmail’s servers which, according to my brother, is much more secure than FTP.
After Jamie finalized my domain transfer, we went to Lynette Restaurant for brunch. Jamie suggested I try a cup of Potica Latte, it was sweet and delicious. After eating, Jamie and I drove to his cabin to get the Sauna going.
Jamie and I enjoyed a fifteen minutes sauna session before everyone showed up to the cabin. Tiffany, Andrew, Mazie, Tyler, Jamie, and myself, did our best to overflow the hot tub. We then all did a fifteen-minute sauna session before calling it a night.
While having a brief discussion related to my blog, Jamie mentioned two notable items. First, I mentioned to Jamie that I had “traveled back in time” and created a post about our meeting for the first time in New Ulm. He informed me there is a term for creating a post from the past called Pensieve that he had mentioned in a past post of his. Who knew.🤷♂️ And while discussing using LaTeX for math equations in html, my brother brought to my attention that I have been mispronouncing LaTeX - lay-tex, the correct pronunciation is - lay-tech😊
On Sunday the 26th, we got up, ate breakfast, and then Jamie, Tyler, and myself climbed back into the hot tub. None of us had a watch so Tiffany eventually had to come out and get me out so we could get home in time to get Willow.
After returning home, we collected Willow, and got ourselves ready for the upcoming week. Later in the evening, in celebration of my new website, Jamie gifted me a license for Acorn, an image tool that he is a fan of and one that I know I will use. He also suggested I create a favicon for my site:)
End of blog. Thank you for reading!
