Relationship Between Fractions, Division, & Exponents

Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, & Dividing Fractions

Adding and Subtracting Fractions

\[ \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}}{\textcolor{green}{b}} \pm \frac{\textcolor{purple}{c}}{\textcolor{red}{d}} = \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}\textcolor{red}{d} \pm \textcolor{green}{b}\textcolor{purple}{c}}{\textcolor{green}{b}\textcolor{red}{d}} \]

Multiplying Fractions

\[ \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}}{\textcolor{green}{b}} * \frac{\textcolor{purple}{c}}{\textcolor{red}{d}} = \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}\textcolor{purple}{c}}{\textcolor{green}{b}\textcolor{red}{d}} \]

Dividing Fractions - multiply a/b to the reciprocal of c/d

\[ \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}}{\textcolor{green}{b}} / \frac{\textcolor{purple}{c}}{\textcolor{red}{d}} = \frac{\textcolor{blue}{a}\textcolor{red}{d}}{\textcolor{green}{b}\textcolor{purple}{c}} \]
