On Thursday the 11th, I had my annual adult preventive care appointment. I like these yearly visits because they provide benchmark data and motivation, particularly through blood test results. From an analytical position, I appreciate having concrete data to track where I’m at over time. I did a couple of things to improve my health this year including abstaining from alcohol beverages since August 25, stopped eating at McDonalds every morning, and lost 18 pounds, currently at 200.
Doctor Murphy created the following notes…he stated he was using an AI application to take notes so I’m not actually sure what that meant.
“Kidney and liver are normal.
Blood count is normal.
A1c diabetes test is stable, up just a bit.
-- Cut back on carbs
Cholesterol is too high.
-- Increase atorvastatin to 20 mg
-- Work on a 5% weight loss
-- Reduce intake of fried/fatty foods
-- Start fish oil, total of at least 3,000 mg of DHA plus EPA daily

After my physical, I received four vaccinations; TDAP (Adacel, Boostrix), Influenza Vaccine Trivalent (FluBlok), COVID-19 12+ (Pfizer), and Pneumococcal 20 valent Conjugate (Prevnar 20).
I had a little bit of lower back ache, slight chills and was a little sore on Friday from the vaccinations. After going to bed, I woke up in the middle of the night and must have had a temperature that broke because I was covered in sweat.
Saturday, Tiffany ordered a loaf of sourdough bread and some cookies from Taryn Johnson who has The Rolling Pin Bakery. It will be fun to try out her baked goods.
Recently, we have been trying to use up excess frozen food to make room in our deep freezer. Tiffany had mentioned that there was a 13.51 lbs. turkey that she had picked up for $6.76 and she thought we better use it. Thursday after digging around for a bit, I located the bird and discovered it was going to take three days for it to thaw out. So, I put it onto a cooking sheet and in the refrigerator it went. On Sunday, Tiffany basted the turkey with three sticks of butter, stuffed it with vegetables, put it in a Reynolds oven bag, and then baked it for 3.5 hours at 325 degrees. A 13.5 lbs. bird supposedly feeds 10 to 11 people so we had to invite a few people over to help eat it all.
