Groundhog Day 🦫, DRPD, Simplex 🔒, Seahawks 🏈

Monday, February 2nd, was Groundhog Day. Unfortunately according to Kare11 News, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow so we are in for six more weeks of winter.

Thursday, I had the day off and the power went out at 1150am. It was out for a couple of hours. I started up the fireplace and enjoyed the electric-free peace and quiet for a while. I was actually disappointed when it came back on. My power outage lunch consisted of an apple, summer sausage, cheese stick, and pickle spears.

On Friday, I stopped by Essentia Health for my pre-employment occupational physical for DRPD. It consisted of a battery of test including a hearing test, eye test, OSHA questionnaire, EKG, physical exam, and a drug test. All went well and the doctor gave me a clean bill of health to perform the duties of a peace officer. 👍

As I return to the law enforcement profession, I am again faced with the requirement of daily handling, storage, and quick access to firearms within my home. Officers are not exempt (nor should they be) from Minnesota State Statute regarding Negligent Storage of Firearms § 609.666. In order to address this, I purchased a BRUTE XD 1394-S FBLK XD Tactical Heavy Duty Large Capacity Handgun Safe with Heavy Duty Lock Cover. It uses a Simplex Lock mechanism for access. The Simplex lock was developed during the Cold War and also because of needs from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Bell Canada field-switching outposts. My first experience with a Simplex Lock was using them on the guest doors at the Mana Kai Maui, Hawaii. The lock stuck me as fast, intuitive, and extremely reliable. I have tried biometric and other electronic locks but all have failed at some point.

On Sunday, The Seattle Seahawks became the Super Bowl LX Champions defeating the New England Patriots 29 to 13! Seattle’s running back Kenneth Walker III was the MVP. His slow walk/skip up to the line and then explosive speed was incredible to watch. I would have to assume Beast Mode was pleased with Walker’s performance. Seattle's "The Dark Side" defense also crushed the Patriots offense. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny performed during the Halftime Show along with Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. 🇺🇸🇵🇷 I loved all the West Coast vibes. We enjoyed Gardetto’s snack mix and Tiffany made some delicious Chili. Andrew was able to get off from work at Target to make the halftime show as well.
