FTO 🚔, Wizard of Oz 🎭

It was really nice out before I had to go to work on Monday so I took advantage of the moment and cleaned the yard up a bit. I removed the septic blanket, picked up some sticks, and put the snowblower away. 🤞

More FTO with DRPD on Tuesday. I had a little extra time before work so I took a different route to the PD. I drove around Sugar Hills Rd, took a left on 63, turned north on 6, and then took the Deer River Shortcut Co Rd 11. From my driveway to the PD was only approximately half an hour - might take that route more often. It was my first day driving and initiating self-directed activity. I conducted some traffic stops and learned where Basswood Road is. We had to make a pitstop at Itasca County MIS (Management Information Systems) to get our printer to work, the mobile system can be quite the pain to use. It was also my first shift that we didn’t end up with a felony call…

Friday was another call in Ball Club and subsequent transport to IC jail - disorderly suspect wearing jail pants but that’s a story for another day. I’m certainly not going to be disappointed with lack of activity in my beat. 🥃🚔🤪

Sue Alley drove up from Big Stone City, SD on Saturday to see Andrew perform as the Scare Crow in Wizard of Oz. Sue mentioned that John is now working for Lou’s greenhouse in Big Stone. Before Sue and Tiffany went to the matinee showing of the Wizard of Oz, we stopped at Rapids brewing for some nachos, smash burgers, & Cesar salad.

After Sue left for home, Tiffany and I stopped at DQ so I could pick up a Peanut Buster Parfait and we then drove to the Reif for the evening showing of the Wizard of Oz.

Andrew’s performance of the character Scarecrow was brilliant and he acted the part as it was meant to be. In fact, all of the performers matched their characters perfectly, kudos to the director. There is too much to say - what was my favorite - but the Poppy scene was colorful, and I liked the blue Winkie Guards costumes, and I thought the trios clever plan to sneak into the castle was funny, and the mechanical big boxy prop for Oz was perfect.

The following are my two favorite quotes from The Wizard of Oz and also seem fitting for the times…

“I don’t know. But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don’t they?”

— Act I Scene Eight, Scarecrow – The Cornfield

"Oh! (Tries to close the curtains again.) Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. The Great and Powerful Oz – (Gives up.) – has spoken – "

— Act II, Scene Eleven, Oz - The Wizard’s Chamber (Humbug)
